Decorating boots?

I've got a friend who wants to paint a pattern on her boots. I'm wondering if anyone knows the best method and materials to do this...

    I had a motorcycle jacket that I decorated with fabric/leather paint and stencils and it turned out really great. Depending on the size of the painting and since boots get a lot of leather moving around it might just work. Try hobby stores, I think I got my paint at Mendels in the Haight in SF. It turned out really cool and now I am sad because I sold it years ago...Wah..
